Job Title: ELA / English Language Learner Paraprofessional
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic High School English Language Arts (ELA) and English Language Learner (ELL) Paraprofessional to join our team. The ideal candidate will support students in both ELA and ELL programs, working collaboratively with teachers to enhance learning experiences and provide targeted support for English language learners. This position requires a passion for working with students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, as well as a strong commitment to promoting academic success in literacy.
Key Responsibilities:
● Assist the ELA and ELL teachers with classroom instruction, providing individualized and small group support to students.
● Support English Language Learners in improving their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
● Collaborate with teachers to modify lessons, materials, and assessments to meet the needs of ELL students.
● Assist in the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or other learning plans for students requiring specialized support.
● Provide additional tutoring or homework assistance for ELL students who need extra help.
● Help maintain a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that encourages student engagement.
● Monitor student progress and communicate with teachers regarding areas where students may need further assistance.
● Assist in preparing instructional materials, grading assignments, and maintaining records as needed.
● Supervise students during transitions, lunch, and other non-instructional times as required.
Qualifications:
● High School diploma or equivalent (required); some college coursework in education, English, or a related field is preferred.
● Experience working with high school students, particularly English Language Learners (preferred).
● Familiarity with instructional strategies and accommodations for students with diverse learning needs.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
● Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
● Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and support staff.
● Bilingual skills (preferred but not required).
Schedule and Compensation:
● Part-time to full-time, approximately 30-40 hours per week.
● Flexible scheduling based on school needs and the candidate's availability.
● Competitive $27/hour rate.
Work Environment:
The ELA/ELL Paraprofessional will spend most of their time in classrooms and hallways within The Henry Ford Museum and/or Greenfield Village, interacting with students and staff, ensuring smooth transitions, and maintaining a positive school atmosphere.
