Henry Ford Academy is a college prep high school (grades 9-12) located inside the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation & Greenfield Village and surrounded by the campus of Ford Motor Company. Students come from districts within Wayne County, as well as private, parochial, and home schools.

We are currently seeking an English Learner (EL) Paraprofessional to join our team on a part-time basis. In this role, you will provide support to the Henry Ford Academy (HFA) English Learner program, grades 9 - 12. You will work directly with, and under the guidance of, HFA’s EL Facilitator, who is responsible for providing services to HFA’s EL students. These services include, but are not limited to, academic/instructional support, English Language Development (ELD), annual WIDA testing, student progress tracking, modification & accommodation development and implementation, course test administration/proctoring, parent & family engagement.

Services are provided to 9th grade English Learner students in HFA’s Museum Campus, and 10th - 12th grade students in the Village Campus. EL Paraprofessional is anticipated to be a part-time position: three (3) days/ week, eight (8) hours/ day (8:00-4:00), through end of 2023-24 school year (mid-June). Potential for renewal going forward.

Specific Duties

Under the guidance, direction, and supervision of the EL Facilitator, EL Paraprofessional will:
• Provide academic/instructional support to EL students. This could include working with students on daily assignments, projects, essays, etc., individually and in small groups. Includes follow-up with teacher requests for additional, specific student support.
• Administer/ proctor EL student course assessments and annual WIDA test.
• Support/ assist with EL student progress monitoring, e.g., pulling PULSE reports, making observations/ notes for follow-up and potential interventions.
• Support/ assist with monitoring of former EL students (i.e., those that have exited the WIDA program) and/ or higher proficiency students to determine if services/ interventions may be required.
• Support/ assist with development and implementation of modifications & accommodations for EL students.
• Support/ assist with ELD programs/ activities as directed.
• Support/ assist with parent interaction/ communication as relevant/ feasible (e.g., Parent Teacher Conferences, parent meetings).
• Attend HFA staff, department, and grade level meetings as relevant/ feasible.
• Conduct other duties to support HFA and the EL program as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• 5 or more years of experience working with high school students.
• 5 or more years of experience providing EL services in a school setting, preferably to high school students.

Preferred Qualifications

• EL Certification
• Teacher Certification
• Spanish and/or Arabic language proficiency
• Familiarity/ experience with MiStar and Google Suite
