As a Painter at The Henry Ford, you would be responsible for general maintenance, exhibit and non-historic painting and finishing using a variety of painting and finishing techniques. This includes preparation and finish work, exterior and interior painting, staining and varnishing, specialty finishes, wallpapering and general maintenance tasks.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Prepares surfaces for painting.
  • Selects premixed or mixed paints for appropriate color or applicability.
  • Paints exterior and interior surfaces using brushes, rollers or spray guns.
  • Erects scaffolding for aboveground work.
  • Prepares new drywall for finishing (tape and mud).
  • Glazes windows.
  • Selects and applies various types of wallpaper
  • Creates specialty finishes.
  • Performs other activities as necessary.
  • Contributes to the effective team management of all problems, issues and opportunities.
  • Acts as a team player and provides expertise within team and with other teams as appropriate.

Your Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Journeyman Painter designation OR 7 years' experience in residential/commercial painting

Special Skills

  • General Knowledge of painting and wallpapering techniques and tools, ability to operate motorized equipment and machinery
  • Problem solving, trouble shooting, evaluating, prioritizing
